To deliver high-precision measurements data for any needs various sensors can be connected to the RCM 500 NT. The IT-ARCTIS measures accurately the exact freezing point, regardless of the thawing agent used and gives the operation manager the opportunity to take the appropriate decision at the right time.

Long-lasting experience in developing active and passive road surface sensors led us to the integrated intelligence. This allows an easy and flexible integration of our huge product range into any existing IT system for ice prevention and winter maintenance, also as ‘stand-alone’ solution.

The IT-Sens probe has been designed to be installed in the pavement. IT-Sens TCS is specialized for Traffic Control Support.

Active Sensor for Measurement of Freezing Point Temperature

The active sensor IT-ARCTIS (Active Road / Runway Condition Temperature of Ice Formation Sensor) allows measuring the exact active freezing point by cooling the sensor itself down to 15°C below the current pavement temperature.

The freezing point temperature of the de-icing agent-water-dust mixture located on the surface of the sensor is measured independently from the used de-icing agent. This is particularly significant for airports, where on aviation areas salt is not allowed to be used for de-icing.

The required accuracy for freezing point temperature measurement, as defined in the European Standard EN 15518, is ensured.

The direct RS485 output provides outstanding flexibility in any existing and future Boschung systems as well as in other independent systems, such as Traffic Management Systems.

The sensor can be installed in sensor box, if required.

The contamination of the runway has an essential impact on complex processes between various factors with influence on the braking effect of airplanes. Therefore regular respectively situational friction measurements are carried out for runway condition monitoring.

The RCD-System (Runway Contaminant Depth) of Boschung Mecatronic is a brand new development with the Runway Sensor IT-Sens RCD as core element of the global RCM 500 NT system. The RCD-System allows a permanent monitoring of the runway condition and the level of contamination. It is designed as an all year round system as rainfalls and winter condition alike do have impacts on the air traffic.

Data evaluation can be easily and clearly visualized live on the BORRMA-web and can be exported into other system like e.g.  Air Traffic Control.

Sensor for visibility and rainfall

The PWS 500 IR (Present Weather Sensor) is a compact Present Weather Sensor, which uses optical backscatter technique for analyzing water particles of different forms in the air like fog, rain or snow.

Thanks to its compact design the PWS 500 IR uses very low power consumption to keep its optics dry. With the shields protecting the optics from direct sunlight and rain, the lenses can be kept clean and very low maintenance is required.

The RF/TL 500 sensor measures the air relative humidity and temperature. An integrated electronic unit processes the air humidity signal and produces a linear signal proportional to the relative humidity. The housing uses natural ventilation to accelerate elimination of condensation on the measuring head. A protective filter covers the sensitive elements of the measuring head. This filter is used to obtain the best response time in an environment close to a main road.

The sensor itself is protected from foul weather by a weatherproof casing. It is also protected against direct, indirect and distributed radiation. This protection is designed so that the temperature distribution is uniform internally and very close to the temperature of the outside air. Natural ventilation guarantees a very rapid response time for measurements.

Ultrasonic Wind speed and direction sensor

The WG (wind speed) and WR (wind direction) sensor is designed to measure horizontal wind speed and direction.

This ultrasonic anemometer uses a proven technology to provide wind speed and direction data over one RS485 serial output. A status code is transmitted together with the measurement to confirm correct operation.

With its robust, corrosion-free polycarbonate housing, this small, lightweight wind sensor is recommended for use in harsh environmental conditions.

The WG/WR 500 has no moving parts, providing maintenance-free operation in a wide range of applications.

Road Condition Observer

The RCO sensor is an electro-optical sensor able to measure road conditions and temperature. Easily installed on a pole or frame, it does not require any work on the roadway. The RCO sensor monitors the pavement condition and temperature in real time and detects the appearance of water or snow as well as the formation of ice.

The RCO sensor can be connected within a Boschung local network or directly polled by the BORRMA-web software. The data delivered by the RCO sensor is displayed on the BORRMA-web like a standard RWIS (Road Weather Information System).
