CombiWet® For City, Countryside & Highway

It is well known that different weather conditions need different spreading methods. But does winter maintenance use the optimal spreading method for each operational ride? And, are there different spreading machines needed for this purpose? Küpper-Weisser’s answer is: CombiWet®.

CombiWet Combined clever spreading

CombiWet® is the spreading machine for all weather conditions and thus as well perfect for all operational conditions. In technological perfection CombiWet® allows distribution of

  • Dry media
  • Prewetted salt (FS 30 or OptiWet® Technology)
  • Brine

in a single spreader.

Often the application of FS 30 is not the right spreading method. Latest perceptions show clearly better results in preventive action with pure brine application. The combination of all spreading methods in one single spreader therefore is not only intelligent, but results automatically in optimized and economic operations.

CombiWet® constructively was realized in 2 versions: Highly flexible for cities and as Highspeed-Spreader with pure brine for up to 80 km/h for trunk roads and highways.

Hoarfrost - Preventive operations

FS 30 Technology

Prewetted salt can only stick on a dry road for a short while. A prevailing part of the salt grains fail to come to solution. Slip stream and turbulence of rolling traffic move the grains into the side green.

Pure brine

Pure brine really sticks to the road surface and is not carried away on dry roads during hours.

  • Preventive spreading should only be performed with liquid.

Savings of salt applied with liquid brine spreading

Application of pure brine principally reduces already the amount of salt applied. High residual time of brine on the road surface results in another remarkable reduction of salt applied. Use of brine in preventive spreading discharges massively the environment. Besides that there are cost savings.

Freezing humidity


Freezing humidity needs a high part of brine for rapid thawing action and at the same time a part of solid agent.

That reduces the re-icing due to low brine concentration on road surface.

Low spreading density

Higher humidification for better adhesion, rapid thawing action.

Lot of snow and ice


Strong snow fall and snow compacted by snowplow and traffic need prewetting technology FS-Adaptive.

The high part of snow and ice on the road needs a sufficient amount of dry agent to achieve a remarkable result.

CombiWet® A: Countryside & Highway

With CombiWet® A highway exits may be treated with width 3,75 m, precise and as well with low speed. On highways speed may be increased to up to 80 km/h.

Commutable jet nozzles to the left and to the right with up to 3,75 m width to each side provide an excellent spreading pattern – with pure brine.

Jet nozzles

The directed jet of these nozzles shows extreme stability concerning wind influence thus allowing very high driving speeds. The high average driving speed on trunk roads and motorways is used to distribute the applied brine especially laterally by means of the following traffic.


The optimal combination of CombiWet® technology is given with an OptiWet® as basic spreader. OptiWet® is as well suitable to apply salt precisely as well at high driving speeds. By use of the patented FS Adaptive technology with low densities a higher amount of brine is applied and with high densities a lower amount of brine.

Central spray block

The central spray block is equipped with several commutable disk nozzles which provide a very good lateral distribution at low speeds as well as at high speeds. By use of 5 disk nozzles at all time the necessary number of nozzles may be switched on just following driving speed and spreading density.


Spray block for CombiWet® A

Alternatively to jet nozzles spray blocks with wide angle nozzles may be utilized to spray to the left and to the right side of vehicle. Similar to the central spray block these wide angle nozzles offer an excellent lateral distribution and use of several separately commutable nozzles allow a speed dependent spraying even at low speeds. Spray blocks may be used for speeds from 5 km/h up to 60 km/h.

Cascaded tanks

Front side tanks for CombiWet® are cascaded and are available in 2 sizes with1.650 l or 2.200 l.

CombiWet® S: City

In urban areas drive speeds are lower and traffic density varies strongly. Therefore other requirements are valid for CombiWet® in this environment:

Stop- and Go traffic
Flexible spreading technology at urban 2-lane and narrow streets

The requirements for a very good lateral distribution when applying the agent are far higher, the widths and densities are to be adapted to streets’ width and number of lanes in a flexible way.

The CombiWet® S spinner allows the application of pure liquid at widths from 3 to 8 m as well as widths from 3 to 12 m in prewetted operations. By its flexibility CombiWet® S is the ideal spreading machine meeting the requirements for a differentiated spreading technology in urban areas.
